Food web and food chain
In this food web the energy starts with the producer, the buffalo grass. Then the primary consumers, prairie dog, elk, bison, eat the grass. After that the secondary consumers, wolf and hawk, eat the primary consumers, the prairie dog, elk, and bison. The fluctuations in the food web can be very harmful to the organisms within the food web. As an example what if the wolf species just died out one day? The consumers would flourish and overpopulate without the Predator keeping the population in control.
If an invasive species would come into the environment, the animals already within the web wouldn't know what to do because it would be a new organism. An example of an invasive species is the Black Bear. The Black Bear would eat more of the primary consumers and there wouldn't be much food for the other secondary consumers.
